Monetizing: The Art

Monetizing is a type of printmaking made by drawing or painting on a smooth, non-absorbent surface. The surface, or matrix, was historically a copper etching plate, but in contemporary work, it can vary from zinc or glass to acrylic glass. The picture is then transferred onto a sheet of paper by pressing the three together, usually using a printing press. Monotypes can also be created by inking an entire surface & then, using brushes or rags, removing ink to generate a subtractive picture, e.g. generating lights from a field of opaque color. The inks used may be oil based or water based. With oil-based inks, the paper may be dry, in which case the picture has more contrast, or the paper may be damp, in which case the picture has a 10 percent greater range of tones.
Unlike nonprinting, monetizing produces a matchless print, or monotype, because most of the ink is removed during the initial pressing. Although later reprinting is sometimes possible, they differ greatly from the first print & are generally thought about inferior. A second print from the original plate is called a “ghost print” or “cognate”. Stencils, watercolor, solvents, brushes, & other tools are often used to embellish a monotype print. Monotypes are often spontaneously executed & with no previous sketch.

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

Banner Size
The size of your banner is also important for a first impression and lasting impact. Traditional size banner printing is easy and cost-effective, but if you have a special product you’d like to promote or an event you are sponsoring, why not opts for an oversize banner to make the biggest impact? An oversize banner can draw a lot of attention and give your product or event an exciting element.

Pole Pockets
Including pole pockets on the left and right sides, or at the top and bottom of your banner pre- production is an option that you may want to consider. Pole pockets can easily allow you to slip your banner onto an existing set of poles to secure and display your banner.

Horizontal or Vertical Layout
Your banner printing layout can make or break the pizzazz of your banner. A horizontal banner is most commonly used, but why not tries a vertical banner printing that is attention-getting and unique?

Vinyl Banners
High-quality long-lasting vinyl is certainly a material that your banner printing job can easily be produced on. Vinyl banners help lengthen the durability of a typical banner sign, especially if it is for outdoor usage. Vinyl banners come with two options. They can be top material with a smoother, matte finish, or high quality mesh-like vinyl with a rugged finish.

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

Advantages

. Less Investment Cost: As there is no machine required in hand screen printing and it is possible to print in a shorter space; the total investment in hand screen printing is comparatively lower than other screen printing system.

• No Risk: No heavier instrument or machine tools are used in hand screen printing. So, there is no risk.

• Multi-color Design can be printed: In hand screen printing procedures various colors can be used effectively.

• Less Floor Space Is Required: As no heavier and bigger machines and related tools are used, the hand screen printing requires lower space to install.

• Suitable for Small Scale Production: If you want to install a screen printing factory for you local business, you can choose the hand screen printing at the initial stage as it requires lower cost or investment.

Disadvantages

• Slow Production: All of the processes are done by manual labor; the production rate becomes lower than other printing process.

• Small Scale: If you want to own a big screen printing factory or if you have some bigger plan in future; the hand screen printing is not for you.

• Labor Intensive Process: A labor has to work manually and all of the process of the hand screen printing is done by the hands. So it needs more time to produce a product.

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

What Exactly Is CMYK?

CMYK is the abbreviated nickname for a color model. It is sometimes referred to as process color or four color model that we use in the process of color printing. CMYK refers to the four inks used in color printing: cyan, magenta, yellow, and key black. Though each print house, press operator, and press manufacturer have different ways of operation, ink is typically applied in the order of the abbreviation. CMYK is the standard color model used in offset printing for full-color documents.

The “K” in CMYK stands for key because in four-color printing the cyan, magenta, and yellow printing plates are delicately aligned with the key of the black key plate. There are even sources suggesting that the “K” comes from the last letter in "black" and though an interesting speculation, that theory is incorrect.

The CMYK model works by partially or completely hiding certain colors on the typically white background that it is going on. How it hides certain colors is more commonly known as subtractive because absorbing particular wavelengths of light, the inks “subtract” brightness from white.

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

Give your Print a little Glow: Florescent Posters

At least once a year, every print shop will have to deliver a glow in the dark/ black light job for a client. Some Printers make a mistake and tend to think only about the issues of printing with fluorescent inks However, there is another important factor that needs to be considered and thought out and that is the ending effect that Optical Brightening Agents (OBA’S) in the paper will have on the final result.

Unprinted paper looks very white and shows the fluorescent inks vibrantly. However, when shone under the black light, the inks glow brightly but the paper which contains little to no levels of fluorescing agents goes dark - there is effectively no light for the paper to reflect.

The differences in color response can be utilized creatively or could ruin what the artist originally intended the look of the poster to be. If a paper with high levels of OBA is used instead, what ends up happening is the look of the image will ultimately be preserved under the black light
.

So, when approached by a client about jobs containing black light effects, one must consider the amount of OBAs that the paper carries because it can have a tremendous influence on the finished product. If the paper used for the print job has full ink coverage, you may then want to choose a paper with high OBA content to assist in the final glowing effect.

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

Rotogravure otherwise known as Gravure is a form of the intaglio printing process, meaning that it entails the engraving of an image onto an image carrier. During gravure printing, engraving of an image is performed onto a cylindrical copper piece and it is done like that since like both offset and flexography printing methods, a rotary printing press is utilized. Rolls of paper, instead of individual sheets are more commonly used with most gravure presses.

The quickest and widest print presses in operation are Rotary Gravure presses which have the ability to print anything from narrow labels to wide vinyl flooring rolls that measure up to 12 feet. Gravure presses come in handy for other projects such as saddle stitching facilities which are incorporated with work on brochures and magazines. Rotogravure Presses are still wielded for commercial printing of postcards, magazines, and product packaging.

Gravure is considered more of an industrial type printing process that is used for its high-speed ability to produce mass amounts of large print while it runs at a constant flow with top quality. An example of Gravure print use would be seen in the process of printing large quantities of magazines and mail order catalogues and when high quality is desired by the customer, Gravure is called in to produce wallpaper and furniture laminates.

Gravure cylinder engraving is mostly performed digitally these days by a laser etching machine or a diamond tip. The engraved image imprinted onto the cylinder, is made up of small recessed cells/ dots play the role of microscopic wells. Depending on the depth and size of each of the wells is how one can determine the amount of ink that gets transferred to the material being used on the job through a process of applying pressure, and electrostatic pull which is ultimately incorporated to enhance the transfer of ink.

Original post blogged on b2evolution.
